Are you a lover of Italian foods? I am! However, with Adam’s allergy to gluten, my new lifestyle of cooking gluten-free meals has altered my enjoyment of those age-old dishes. For instance, I primarily eat rice pasta now and cannot really taste much of a difference. Dare I say I enjoy most all gluten-free foods as much as I had the “traditional” foods?
One product we’ve recently reviewed divided Adam and I on our taste of gluten-free foods. They were the Coleman’s Italian-style meatballs.

Appearance
Pros: Growing up, meatballs were always so huge! This was a negative aspect in my mind because there was way to much meat per bite. However, these Coleman’s meatballs are perfectly prepared in small circles that can accommodate both child adult portions.
Cons: I had no qualms with the appearance at all!
Taste
Pros: I really liked the taste of these meatballs. They didn’t taste fake like many of the pre-made meatballs I’ve tried in the past. They were chicken meatballs, so they were lean but still tasty.
Cons: Unfortunately, Adam did not agree with my assessment at all. These meatballs were seasoned with fennel, which offers a very herbal licorice taste. Adam doesn’t like licorice at all, so he ate about one or two meatballs and gave the rest to me. That’s not great, of course; so, I’m hoping that the other seasoned meatballs offered by Coleman don’t include the fennel.
Also, I really didn’t taste any parmesan. That was disappointing.
Moisture/Texture
Pros: These meatballs were great in texture, not grainy at all, and moist enough to keep me from having to go for a drink of water after each bite — like I did growing up. Great job, Coleman Foods!
Cons: I had zero complaints in this regard.
What I Love
I was unsure at first how the chicken meatballs would taste. Chicken? Will it be bland? Will they be dry? None of the above!! 🙂 Tasty, yummy, and uniquely spiced, they were wonderful!
What I’d Improve
I would definitely recommend decreasing the level of fennel in the meatballs. Although I like the taste and thought it was a creative accent, I thought it was a little overpowering.

Let’s say it without equivocation: Colin Firth deserves an Oscar for his lead role in The King’s Speech as the stammering King George VI.
