Talk about It Tuesdays: 50 Practical Do’s and Don’t’s for Relationships (Pt 4)

[Better late than never! 🙂 ]

Last week I had a wacky dream.

For some reason, I was being “forced” to marry an old friend from high school. I don’t know why I had to or who was in charge of this decision, but I found myself in a strange situation where I had to marry this guy I’ll call Gary. I’ll admit: he was a high school crush of mine; but suddenly, in this dream of mine, I had to marry him….not back then, but as we are today.

We took this walk (in my dream) and tried to talk about what was about to happen. I was really concerned as to why he was separated from his (real) wife. I was also concerned about doctrinal issues we really wouldn’t agree upon. One single thought kept coming back to me: What about Adam?? I want to be married to Adam!

Garth Brooks has a song called “Unanswered Prayers”.  (Take a listen: Unanswered Prayers.)  I’ve been thinking about this song since that moment when I woke from this dream, found Adam next to me, and had 5 minutes (’til my alarm went off) to just rest in his arms, so content that I was with the man that I loved… and not Gary.

Don’t get me wrong; Gary is nice. He’s a great guy.  His wife was lucky to get him as her husband. However, I am so incredibly thankful that God did not give me the desire I had in high school. He knew what I needed. He knew whom I should marry. He knew that Adam Garrett Bowman was to be my husband; and am I glad that God didn’t listen to me, that He didn’t answer my prayers as I desired at that time, and that He did what He knew was best!

Are in that place? Are you feeling like God isn’t answering your prayers? Are you frustrated that he/she doesn’t like you?  Are you frustrated with God’s timing [or seeming lack-thereof]?

Trust the Lord. I know that’s so easy for me to say as a young woman who has already been married for a year at 23½, but know that His ways are so much better than our own, and He wants the very best for you:

Isaiah 55:9
For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
So are My ways higher than your ways
And My thoughts than your thoughts.

Psalm 103:11
For as high as the heavens are above the earth,
So great is His lovingkindness toward those who fear Him.

Jeremiah 29:11
For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.

Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the LORD with all your heart
And do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He will make your paths straight.

Trust Him today. He has your best in mind.

If the ideal relationship you desire now isn’t working out/happening as you think it should… Just think. That means God’s got something so much better in store for you!
