Not all barbecue sauces are created equal. It’s as simple as that. Although I grew up on Kraft sauces (and pretty much just the Original) at that, I am so glad that my husband introduced me to a variety of sauces. We like Sweet Baby Ray’s and he likes it when we make our own. Most recently, he gave me a sauce and asked me to tweet its taste.
I was sent some gluten-free barbecue sauce to review. No, not all barbecue sauces are gluten-free or allergy-free. I am happy to report back with some thoughts.

Appearance
Pros: I love the appearance of these jars. 🙂 They’re so rugged and country. I have to admit: I found myself reading the labels, the stories, everything. Very appealing.
Cons: I can’t say anything negative, except that the glue to the label on the jar came off – simple issue to fix – and the neck of the jar is a little too narrow for getting my rubber spatula in there to get the last few drops! 🙂
Taste
Pros: I really like the Stubbs Original sauce. 🙂 I’m a big fan of the classic sauce that’s not too sweet and not too spicy! 🙂
Cons: I also tried the Hickory Bourbon sauce, but I have to be honest that I’m not a fan of bourbon, and Adam wasn’t a fan either, so that was unfortunate. The combination of the hickory, which is a strong flavor, with the strong flavor of the bourbon is a little overpowering.
Moisture/Texture
Pros: Smooth and delectable. I can say nothing negative about the sauce texture. I don’t like grainy, stiff sauces that I need to water down or thin sauces that run off the meat, so that it doesn’t correctly season the meat I’m barbecuing. No issues here! I love the consistency!
Cons: I repeat: I can say nothing negative about the sauce texture. 🙂
What I Love
This company has a lot of respect in my mind. There’s something natural and wholesome about their packaging, something that appeals to the ideals of cooking and barbecuing. As silly as that sounds, I feel like I’m opening up a product I know is natural, nothing something that looks and tastes like it was processed in a factory.
What I’d Improve
I would say that I’m not a fan of bourbon, but I know that’s preference. On a more practical note, the shape of the bottle is not conducive for scraping out all the yummy sauce out of the bottom of the jar! 🙂
