I was really excited when I received Chebe products in the mail. The box contained multiple mixes and flours, and I was happy to try a new variety of bread in my kitchen.

Appearance
Pros: I can’t say anything negative about the packaging. They’re quite professional looking! I like how they clearly label the ingredients and allergens and the mixes look great.
Cons: However, I wish I had taken a picture of the garlic breadsticks that this mix made. I was very sorry to find that the mix turned into a thick, dry log that was not even appealing in appearance.
Taste
Pros: It’s hard to say anything super amazing about the taste. The mix itself didn’t have any bad after-tastes. The strength of the cheese flavor depended on your individual baking choice. Nothing amazing to report though.
Cons: The taste of these garlic breadsticks left much to be desired. They were rather bland, and reminded me of something I might have made before I knew how to bake gluten-free.
Moisture/Texture
Pros: Ugh… I don’t like not having something positive to say about a product, but in fact, there’s not much good to say here except that they didn’t turn into a complete rock.
Cons: The worst part of these “breadsticks” were how gummy they were. They had an awful, unappealing texture that was definitely nothing like eating bread or rolls or garlic knots of any kind. They tasted fake.
What I Love
I love second tries, redeeming values, and other options than making products by the recipe called for. That’s my next plan. I will find some remedy for the mixes I have and perhaps another mix will be better.
What I’d Improve
I definitely have to say that the texture of these “knots” were the worst aspect. Adam couldn’t finish a bite, and I couldn’t even eat a whole one, and I eat a lot of “not so amazing” products. Help me, Chebe. Let’s work together to improve your mix.

While I may not be a fan of these products, others are. So, check out this company here!
The Chebe products need to be kneaded a lot and it will improve texture. I use a Kitchen Aide mixer. You need to make sure and bake it long enough, too. I made the mistake of not baking it long enough and it was gummy. Also you can add some baking powder and it changes the texture – I think it takes a tablespoon. This makes it more bread like. I like the garlic-onion with cream cheese (I use “better than cream cheese” substitute). I feel like I get to eat garlic bagels again. You can also add 1/4 cup potato flakes to any of the Chebe mixes and a little extra moisture to get a nice roll out of it to have with soup and stew. I have to be totally grain free for a while and I am super happy to have the Chebe mixes. I plan on experimenting using more oil (I use coconut) or clarified butter and sugar and try to make cookies 🙂
